Basics of Drying - Good to know

Infrared Drying

  • Drying with infrared readiators the water is evaporated using the radiated heat.
  • For most infrared dryers tempratures of 480 - 575°F are used. That is higher than the flash point of paper.
  • The ideal absorbtion of energy take playe with a IR wave length of 3µm.

Air Drying

  • The water in the ink is evaporated by the air flowing over the board and is evacuated from the printing area.
  • Heating the air is used only to accelerate this process
  • With 250°F air temprature, the maximum drying efficiency is achieved; higher tempratures do not accelerate the process very significantly.
  • The air dryer process is mor efficient. It requires lower temperatures so a lower energy consumption thanan IR dryer.

  • The infrared dryer is built as modular cassette system.
  • Each dryer cassette is equipped with 4 short wave, NIR or medium wave emitter
  • Through a reflector plate, the rear radiation is reflected evenly on the drying surface.
  • The lamp area is protected by a glass plate and guide bars against the ingress of sheets and pieces of paper
  • The system is available in 2 power classes

// Our unique air management

The cooling & process air is directed through the emitter area and is fed into the drying area in the inlet area of the dryer cassette as hot process air to absorb the moisture

  • The quartz plate has only a temperature under 150 °C -> lower danger of fire
  • The hot-air-nozzle makes effective process air available and helps cleaning the surface of the dryer from dust

// With the Power Management you save energy

  • Control of the dryer via modern touch panel (all machine interfaces possible)
  • Each cassette can be controlled individually according to the needs of the printing process
  • The power of each drying module can be infinitely adjusted from 0-100%
  • The emitters of each cassette are monitored. A failure is displayed.
  • The configuration of the dryer modules can be saved per order.

// Savety First - Our ToolBox

Even though our IR drying systems are build as save as possible there is still a small prossibilty that a fire can occure. For this we provide in our ToolBox additional safety features. You can choose between:

  • SafetyGuard - light curtain observing the surface of the drying unit
  • SentryCam - HD digital camera observing the area of the drying unit
  • PowerDropDown - Swing down the dryer at machine stop

We offer the full range of IR emitter on our ColorDry NT

On our ColorDry NT system you can choose which kind of IR emitter is the best for your drying solution.

Our standard are medium wave emitter but you can also choose short wave emitter or a hybrid combination.

  1. Air as process air absorbs the humidity and lead it away
  2. Air for cooling the IR emitter guarantee a longer life time of the emitter
  3. Air as safety barrier for paper and dust and as air pad over the dryer which is under the flaming point of paper
  4. Due to the air management the temperature is under the flaming point of fire – means the risk of fire is minimized

The air can be provide by integrated ventilators or external ventilator depending on the situation at your machine.

Even though our IR drying systems are build as save as possible there is still a small prossibilty that a fire can occure. For this we provide in our ToolBox additional safety features. You can choose between:

// Our modern Air Drying Systems have some special and unique characteristics:


(1) Heating the air with different heat sources is now possible (steam, gas, hot-water, thermal oil, or electrical).

(2) The air volume of each interim dryer can be regulated from 0-100% by an electronic control flap. 

(3) The operator can control the power consumption by adjusting the temperature set point.

(4) Our use of frequency-converter controlled ventilators based on air volume needs reduces power consumption.

(5) Our unique widths adjustment feature allows the operator to adjust the drying widths required delivers (25 % energy saving).

(6) The Intelligent air volume management using only the required air volume results in an average 30% energy savings.

(7) The Intelligent control of the dryers ensures the wait-time for warm-up is reduced to a minimum2) The air volume of each interim dryer can be regulated from 0-100% by an electronic control flap.
